Helen Maguire MP Welcomes Long-Overdue Action to Release Frozen Abramovich Funds for Ukraine

Helen Maguire has consistently pressed ministers to act on frozen Russian assets, repeatedly raising the issue in Parliament during her time as Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Defence, and has since continued calling for decisive action to ensure oligarch wealth linked to Putin’s regime is used to support Ukraine.

Mrs Maguire said:

“This is a clear win for accountability and for Ukraine. For too long, billions of pounds linked to sanctioned Russian oligarchs have sat frozen in UK bank accounts while Ukrainians continue to suffer the horror of Putin’s illegal war.

“I have consistently called for this money to be released, and I welcome the Government’s commitment to finally act.”

Helen Maguire MP will continue to hold the Government to account to ensure this money reaches Ukraine swiftly and that the UK leads internationally in standing up to Putin’s regime.
