Helen on Cost of Living

Helen on Cost of Living

Since becoming your MP, I have been working hard to tackle the ongoing cost of living crisis. I've heard from countless constituents who are still facing really tough choices as a result of decisions made by the Conservatives, and now this current Labour government. From rising bills to the rising cost of goods in supermarkets - families and businesses need additional support.

I am proud to have consistently opposed the Labour Government's cruel decision to scrap the Winter Fuel Allowance, their latest jobs tax and National Insurance hikes, because of the additional damage these measures would cause for the people of Epsom & Ewell.

In the face of rising costs, global insecurity and ever-increasing pressures on businesses, I launched my ‘Buy Surrey, Back Britain’ campaign in Leatherhead to champion the local businesses that truly are the beating heart of our community. From cafes to clothes shops, I have met with businesses right across our constituency to listen to their concerns, and see what additional support they need during these tough times.

I also brought 20 local organisations together for a cost of living roundtable event in Epsom to discuss ways that we can all work closer together to support my constituents here in Epsom & Ewell. It was great to hear all of the brilliant work already being done and the willingness of organisations to do even more to support people in our community.

From urging the Government to freeze rail fares to holding failing water companies to account to bring your bills down, I will always fight to give my constituents a fair deal in Epsom & Ewell.
