Government finally listening to Lib Dems on Ofwat, says Surrey Lib Dem MPs

Responding to reports that the Government will scrap water regulator Ofwat, Surrey's Liberal Democrat MPs, Al Pinkerton, Chris Coghlan, Helen Maguire, Monica Harding, Will Forster and Zöe Franklin, said:
“It’s about time the Government came to its senses. The Liberal Democrats have been demanding Ofwat be scrapped since 2022.
"If Ministers fail to follow through now, it would be a betrayal of Thames Water customers who have put up with disgusting levels of sewage dumping, the neglect of our water infrastructure and skyrocketing bills.
“This must be the beginning of genuine reform. We need a tough, effective regulator that finally puts the people of Surrey and our waterways first, not Thames Water executives and their profits.
“In the River Mole, the River Thames and the River Wey, new figures this week show yet again a spike in the most egregious sewage discharges, with Thames Water once again one of the worst offenders.
"Right across Surrey people are fed up with filthy rivers, sewage spills and costly, leaky pipes. We Liberal Democrats will not stop fighting until our waterways are clean and protected.”
