Epsom and Ewell MP secures win on pavement parking after sustained local and parliamentary campaign

The announcement follows months of campaigning highlighting the impact of pavement parking on local residents, particularly, wheelchair users, parents with prams, older people and those with visual impairment. 

Mrs Maguire said: 

“This is a real win for my campaign to end pavement parking. After I hosted a Westminster Hall debate, tabled an Early Day Motion, repeatedly pressed Ministers in writing and in the Chamber, and campaigned for change locally in Epsom and Ewell, the Government has now acted – giving councils new powers to tackle pavement parking locally. 

“Pavement parking makes streets unsafe and inaccessible. No one should have to put their life at risk on the way to school or a walk to the shops. This is progress, and I’ll keep working to see pavements in Epsom and Ewell clear and accessible for everyone.” 

Following the announcement, the Minister for Local Transport, Lilian Greenwood MP, personally wrote to Helen Maguire MP to notify her of the decision and thank her for her advocacy, citing her “tireless work to campaign, both inside and outside Parliament, to highlight the challenges posed by pavement parking.” 

Helen Maguire MP has worked closely with residents and local campaigners in Epsom and Ewell to push for action, raising the issue repeatedly in Parliament and pressing Ministers to act.
