LABOUR OFFICIALLY GIVES UP ON WINNING EPSOM & EWELL

  • Labour classes Epsom & Ewell as a “non-battleground” for the party ahead of the next General Election

  • Next election is a two horse race between the Liberal Democrats and a desperately out of touch Conservative party

In a recent communication to its members, the Labour party has announced it will not seriously contest the constituency of Epsom & Ewell at the next election.

The Labour party even called the constituency a “non battleground seat”, as they began to select their election candidate.

At the last General Election, the Liberal Democrats finished second place In Epsom & Ewell to the Conservative party. The news from Labour, together with a recent poll in the Times Newspaper, strongly suggests it will again be a fight between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservative party.

Helen Maguire says,

“This constituency will be a two-horse race between the Liberal Democrats and a desperately out of touch Conservative party.

“Labour now admits that it cannot win in Epsom & Ewell – something we’ve been saying since October when the Times newspaper suggested that the Lib Dems would cut the Tory Majority held by Conservative MP Chris Grayling from the current 17,873 majority to a mere 3,515 majority.

“People have told me it’s time for change. The Conservatives are taking people here for granted and failing to deliver for our communities. Given our momentum in recent election results, the Tory Party being split down the middle, the appalling health of our NHS, and local rivers being destroyed by sewage, we know we can win this constituency.

“Enough is enough. It is time we had a local champion who can deliver the change we so desperately need in Epsom & Ewell.”

“We therefore ask those who are looking for real change – whether you are Conservative or Labour - to join us in the fight against those who have wrought so much damage on our nation in recent years.“
